Project details
Subject Matter : Classic Car Competition
WebSite Host name : Not yet available
Required Date: Must be ready and fully tested before 18th August 2009 as it will be used extensively on this date at the Tatton Park Classic Car show in Knutsford
Other details: The website will often be accessed using a laptop outside of the home using a mobile phone internet connection or similar alternative, therefore, if this method of internet access is detrimental to the website performance and loading speeds then this should be a consideration in it's design
I want to be able to make amendments to the site by myself as and when things change or when new competitions are about to start. Therefore I would want to be able to either download the entire site or have a separate backup copy to load onto my own computer.
Inclusion of a no of visitors counter
Inclusion of a no. of entries so far counter
(I want to be able to switch the counters on and off and reset them easily – For instance I don't want the first entries to know that they are the first)
Single page where possible (ie. no scrolling on the Home Page and on the Competition Page)
All relevant details of the entrant and their competition answers to be stored on a database which I would want to be able to view independently
All entries to have an automated email confirming their entry. A duplicate email to be sent to a separate email account.
I am also thinking about the possibility of asking a charity organisation to see if I can make use their name to help promote the competition and give them a percentage or a fixed amount of the profits. I need to look into this first before I can take it forward but it may lead to some extra requirements on the web-page
If you have any ideas about any of this project or you think you could improve upon some of the ideas of mine then I would appreciate your comments
Web Site Content :
Generally – I will provide all of the text and pictures that is relevant to the car competition itself. I would expect you to provide templates etc for things such as payment information
General layout and theme - to be fairly simple with a light coloured background such as beige, perhaps lightly textured. The top and left side should have some kind of border as do most sites with a deeper colour but not too brash. I am not sure of what colour scheme just yet but can think about that soon. Menu on the left hand side
Home Page – To contain general information about the web-site and also at least one photograph
Competition Page – A page which is where the actual competition takes place. This will be interactive so that the input from the operator can be verified and stored.
(For legal reasons, the format of the competition must encompass an element of skill by the participant but I am not sure what I will be including here just at the moment.
Information Page – about the prize itself to include photos
Payments Page – Ideally to use credit and debit cards. I may also allow the use of Paypal as a payment method. Perhaps there could be included a means to accept
cash or cheques when input by the administrator which would be me
Rules and Conditions Page – I will supply the rules
FAQ's Page – Again I will supply the FAQ's
Previous Winners Page - to include photos of past cars already won and perhaps the winners themselves (this will be disabled for the very first competition)
Contact Us Page
Links to Other sites (Either in relevant places and perhaps on a page by itself as well – included in this would be a link to a gambler's warning site and maybe lottery rules etc. I will supply any sites that I know about but am open to suggestions if you think of any that I have not.
Other Sites that have been referred to above:

https://www.almellingsportscars.com

Also can you let me know which medium / language you use as I will probably need to have a copy of such software to make changes from time to time. I already have Dreamweaver CS3 and Frontpage 2003. I would prefer to use Dreamweaver if given a choice.
Regards
Grant Lord
